Mnemonics
It is quite clear that there is more than one method of teaching new concepts to those around us. These methods are often used by teachers in their classrooms to help create a stepping stone for building their knowledge base. One such method is through the use of mnemonics. Mnemonics is a task-specific cognitive strategy that enables direct manipulation of the new material being taught by the teacher (Orey 2002). The goal of the mnemonic is to help process the information by altering it into a pattern the brain can recall easier than it’s original form. Mnemonics can often be used in form of acronyms and memorable phrases.
Ie. The order of the planets from the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
One could use the mnemonic phrase “My Very Excessive Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.”
As children, many of us were afforded the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, whether it was in private lessons or a school music class. Most people who give up on learning a musical instrument do so as a result of the memory ideas required to learn individual notes, chords, scales, and time signatures. Since learning the fundamentals is often a result of rote memorization it is often filled with boredom.
In this section you will be focusing on learning musical notes found on the bass clef through the use of "Mnemonics."
